Am I the Only One 👀 Looking for Different Transportation Methods?

Let’s be honest, it’s very hard to ignore the news these days. Even if we just want to stick to the topic of travel transportation. From our favorite airlines changing our favorite policies and reward programs to the slew of airplane safety incidents going viral on social media, you can’t look away.

This has many of us looking for different transportation methods and even closer travel destinations. Last year, I felt that love hate relationship with airports and just feeling overwhelmed with airport lines, yelling customers, additional fees and limited options.

So! in this post, I’m going to inspire you to take the train trip, plan the road trip or use that ferry to see somewhere new. Traveling is always closer than we think.

Here are my favorite travel “things-to-know” for these other awesome transportation methods!

Taking A Train Trip

This is one of my favorite ways to travel, and where I’ve seen the most growth in popularity and accessibility. Amtrak is increasing routes regularly, I traveled from Tampa, FL to Washington, DC for $100 a few weeks ago (including bags).

  • Train stations are usually in the center of the city vs airports being outside of the city, this can save you a lot of time, money and stress on your travels.

  • Train trips are all about enjoying the journey so come with snacks, a blanket and your favorite book, you may be chillaxing for a while

  • Watch out for 1-2 hour delays impacting your connections, leave a bit of extra room between connections if you can

Using the Ferry

I’ve gotten to use ferries in Lake Como, Italy, Seattle, Washington and The Carolinas and ferries for me are all about the views! I love running for a great spot to soak up all of the sights and feel fancy.

  • Ticket purchasing methods can vary significantly on ferries so research these in advance. There are usually 2 different lines, one to purchase ticket and the other to board the ferry. Get tickets well in advance so you are not stuck waiting to get your tickets while the ferry is boarding. Some may even have ticketing apps to skip long lines, this is the best top secret!

  • Many ferries are also for cars, trucks and bike riders so be patient for structured boarding procedures.

  • Review the schedule for limited departures, you never want to miss the last ferry of the day

Planning A Road Trip

I feel road trips are soooo underrated. I hear people saying “oh those are from back then” or “no one takes road trips anymore” and I’m happy to tell you they are the absolute best thing ever. Not only can you never “miss a flight” or “lose a bag”, you can also bring whatever you want and easily change your plans when you drive. I love it! This has been our stress-free travel escape.

  • Pack an amenities bag so you have anything you need for your trip! I’ll bring a first aid kit, wipes, sanitary items, water, snacks and even sunscreen and bug spray to be ready for random stops we find on the way

  • If you don’t like planning or just want a low-key non-itineraried trip, a road trip is for you. I’ll just make a list of places that I’m interested in along our route and at our destination to wander through, it’s such a relaxed way to travel.

  • Be prepared with roadside assistance and backup hotel spots picked in case your trip becomes delayed and you need assistance

I challenge you to use one of these methods of transportation this year and tell me what you think! and talk to other people about it too! If we want to see these methods of transportation become more popular and accessible, than we have to use them, vote with our dollars and share them with others!
